Summer 2011 Camp Longridge

Happy Friday from Camp Longridge! We have just completed our first retreat of the 2011 Summer, and I am glad to say that it was a blast working with this group.
This group came all the way from Georgia to come and get closer to God and each other as a church group. I really feel that God has worked in this group and will continue to work in their lives even after they have went back home.
Starting from when they arrived, we had prepared dinner for them and had to serve them their food. Being in the "catering" business the year before gave me a "upper-hand" on this because you have to set up the buffet a certain way so that it is easier for the guest to go through the line. Serving drinks and other food items isn't all that bad, until they start coming back up for seconds and thirds of certain things on top of the line that is still trying to come through the line for the first time. Although it wasn't that bad it still was a bit of a challenge. After that it went well they all were served food and then went off to the Chapel to have their worship session, which we were not in attendance to due to cleaning and being hosts to the group.
While they were in their worship session we went out and had our staff get together where we were told what our jobs were going to be as the week went on during the day. On the list it had the days of the week, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, each with different jobs everyday. Monday I was on dinner serving food. Tuesday I was at the bottom of the zip line and got to talk to a lot of the guest who had quite a few questions about how camp would be like if they worked here, and I told them I'm not 100% sure because it is only my first summer but I do know it is going to be a blast. Wednesday I worked canoes, but i wasn't scheduled to work canoes but I had to because one of the people who was supposed to do it had to take over another job because a lifeguard who worked the day before got stung by a bee or wasp or something, anyways I did that and it was not as exciting as the zip line was. Thursday I worked in the lake canteen, it was an okay job to have but I didn't have many people come up and buy food or drinks from me. I did however get to see a bunch of people get blobbed into the lake which was awesome.
Later on Thursday night a storm was rolling in, but it didn't rain or anything here at camp, and me and a couple of guys were sitting down by the lake watching lightning strikes in the background way off in the woods. Sitting there made me realize that God can do anything He wants and that lightning was going exactly where He wanted it to go. Also while sitting there I noticed that there was two colors in the sky, one side was still blue, while the other filled with grey storm clouds. This made me just want to say wow, two separate sides of a lake could be split in half by clouds and not even effect another. I wish I had a camera to take a picture of it because it was so amazing to see how God could have one side all stormy while the other side be clear of clouds.
I still question those who say that there is not a God when there actually is, I mean I look around when I'm at home or here at Longridge and I see that there is all this beautiful creation around me and there is no way that it "evolved" into the things that it is.
More to come as the summer progresses, thanks for the prayers. God Bless.
